WeTravel, a booking and payments platform for the multi-day travel industry, has launched a Women in Travel vertical in its WeTravel Academy, which hosts free resources and educational tools for travel professionals related to topics such as sustainability, inclusivity and wellness.
The Women in Travel vertical is designed to better support and represent individuals who identify as women in the travel industry, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Five for equality in tourism by empowering women and girls.
The vertical will feature co-created content with industry experts covering topics such as supporting intersectionality in climate justice, inclusive experiences to add to travel products and empowering equal outcomes within a travel business.
WeTravel says the vertical is intended to bring BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, cis women, any individual who identifies as a woman or with femininity - including transwomen, transfeminine - and non-binary individuals in travel together in one place.
“As a vertical business, specifically built for the travel industry, we’ve critically considered opportunities to further support communities that are touched by tourism - and all stakeholders within communities - to use our business as a force for good,” says Zaky Prabowo, WeTravel’s co-founder and chief marketing officer.

“When we launched the WeTravel Academy to provide free access to travel resources, many by women, we saw the good it was doing to support the industry. Naturally, adding a vertical that provides tools to make change to better represent women in travel is an important part of the academy’s mission.”
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization: “Tourism has a pivotal role to play in achieving the objectives at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular the commitments to gender equality and empowerment of women of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls).”
Launched in December 2021, the WeTravel Academy features more than 500 content pieces, which have been downloaded by more than 2,500 travel companies and travel advisors.
WeTravel, founded in 2016, is used by more than 3,500 travel businesses for more than 350,000 travelers. Last month, the platform introduced an instant payment feature to its fintech offerings.
It raised $2 million in funding in 2018.
