AirAsia super app users will soon be able to use their faces to check in to flights and buy other services.
The biometric technology, known as Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (FACES), will be deployed initially for air travel and in the Philippines.
Passengers will be able to check in to flights using instant facial recognition as well as order and pay for travel and lifestyle products on the app.
Once a testing program is complete in the first quarter of 2022, users will be able to organize and pay for a range of travel services including hotels and ride hailing, as well as ordering food.
AirAsia super app CEO Amanda Woo says facial recognition technology allows it to make the process "more convenient" and is part of its drive to improve user experience for customers.
"All AirAsia super app users around the region can now register for FACES easily on the app and soon they will be able to use the feature not just for travel but also for all of our lifestyle offerings in our rapidly expanding ecosystem."
The FACES technology was developed in-house at the airline.
