We've been looking back this at our first three months at PhocusWire - and wanted to share some details with you.
Call it our Quarterly Learnings, if you like.
After a heady few days at The Phocuswright Conference in the U.S., when we officially launched, we've been focused on providing a range of news stories, opinion pieces and analysis that cover a broad cross-section of the industry.
This is reflected in our ten most read stories so far:
Leading the pack was one of our first articles, which came out of the event itself, when Google's vice president of shopping and travel, Oliver Heckmann, talked about changes being made to its hotel search functionality.
The story is here, and our interview with Heckmann following his appearance on-stage:
Oliver Heckmann of Google on new hotel platform, QPX and more
You can see more of our coverage from The Phocuswright Conference in 2017 here.
Others that feature in the leading pack of articles include:
- A Morgan Stanley report into an apparent slowing of usage at Airbnb (and, therefore, a bumper opportunity for OTAs to capitalize).
- Our exclusive interview with the president and CEO of Amadeus, Luis Maroto.
- Spiky comments about the state of Viator from an interview with the founder who sold it to TripAdvisor.
- A two-part investigation into the battle between hotels and OTAs.
- Booking.com's quiet introduction (it's called a "test") of more travel tools.
- An interview with the Philippe Chereque, president of American Express Global Business Travel.
We're also thrilled with our first partnerships using the Shorthand publishing platform. We worked with Sift Science and Revinate to produce two long-form pieces on Machine Learning and Email Marketing.
Other bits and pieces
There will be plenty more exclusive interviews with company bosses to come over the next few months as part of our In The Big Chair series.
We have featured a number of excellent opinion pieces from industry thinkers - some stand out ones include these two covering airline ancillaries from the analyst team at Accenture; how autonomous vehicles will shake-up the sector; why travel search engines should up their game; where angel investors should place their bets; and, sadly, why it sucks to launch a travel startup.
January was the first in our themed months, covering ancillaries and retailing. This week we start a month-long look at Blockchain.
Finally, our journalists reconvene in person at the Phocuswright Europe event in Amsterdam. We hope to see you there!
And, for some light relief, this is one of the ways we're building a culture around our virtual team.
