Plenty of attention has been given to the recovery efforts (or not) of hotels, airlines and activities.
But there is an equal amount of turbulence in the car rental sector, as it manages the upside of more people using ground transportation to get around alongside considerable challenges with supply.
As a result, consumers have noticed a significant uptick in rental rates over the course of 2021 as rental brands figure how to bring in more vehicles.
Much of this has been down to issues with the manufacturing of components for cars (computer chips, in particular) but also an ongoing and inconsistent levels of demand, as regions and countries open up or shut down for travel both domestically and from inbound air passengers.
Aileen McCormack, chief commercial officer at CarTrawler, explains how the situation has evolved this year and also how airlines and other travel providers are plotting rental as a part of their retailing strategies.
