Online travel agency Despegar said its new generative artificial
intelligence trip planner is the first of its kind for a travel company in
Latin America.
The beta version of its new planner is now available on its
Argentina site and in the app for global members of its loyalty program,
Pasaporte Despegar.
The company operates in 19 countries across Latin America and said
it will begin rolling out the capabilities to all customers in all markets.
“The AI-based trip planner represents a game changer in the
industry. In line with our innovative spirit, we are excited to be pioneers and allow taking the user
experience to the next level by providing increasingly complete and advised trips,” said Daniel
Zelmann, chief product officer of Grupo Despegar.

Using the trip planner, travelers can receive customized
itineraries, put together packages that combine flights, accommodations and car
rentals and receive recommendations of what to do in their destination.
“Among other benefits, AI technologies make it possible to improve
operational efficiency, offer personalized products and services in a scalable way, and provide
more intuitive experiences for customers,” Zelmann said.
“In the case of packages, this product uses a machine learning
algorithm to identify combinations of airfares and hotels, in order to create
the best package.”
