Headout plans to use a $12 million financing round to expand the service to a large number of new destinations.
The Series B round was led by Glade Brook Capital, with participation from existing backers Version One Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, FJ Labs, 500 Startups, Haystack and Ludlow Ventures.
Other supporters include Espresso Capital and Practical VC.
The total capital raised by the U.S.-based company is now close to $30 million over six rounds.
The tours and activities platform's previous largest round came in July 2018 when it raised a Series A investment worth $10 million.
Headout claims to have grown by 800% since January 2021, as some travel restrictions began to ease in its markets around the world.
As well as the expansion plan to 300 new cities (it is currently in 30), Headout says it will use the investment to hire 150 new employees and product development.
Launched in 2014, it reached positive EBITDA for the first time in July this year.
Varun Khona, co-founder and CEO, says: "The world is an incredibly boring place without travel and real-life experiences. Covid has only made us more relentless on our mission to inspire people to experience the world out there.
"With this round and our profitability milestone, all our focus is on expansion and long-term investments to aid travel recovery.
