PhocusWire is happy to announce the appointment of Mitra Sorrells as its new editor in chief.
She takes on the role from May 1, 2022, following the departure of the existing head of the brand’s editorial team, Kevin May.
Sorrells joined as a senior reporter in January 2018, shortly after PhocusWire’s successful launch at The Phocuswright Conference in November 2017.
A key member of the editorial team during its rapid growth phase, Sorrells has overseen the annual Hot 25 Startups project, broken many exclusive stories, steered coverage of PhocusWire’s theme months and become a regular fixture on its video content and onstage at The Phocuswright Conference.
Sorrells has more than two decades of experience as a journalist, and prior to joining PhocusWire she was technology editor and Orlando bureau chief at BizBash, a trade media brand for the event industry.
Pete Comeau, managing director at Phocuswright, says: “PhocusWire has become a market-leading media brand covering the digital travel economy, and we are excited about where Mitra and the team can take it next. In addition to its high quality, insightful content, PhocusWire is strengthened by its collaborative relationship with Phocuswright and its team of analysts, both behind the scenes and at our events.”
Sorrells will work alongside Jill Menze (news editor) and Linda Fox (senior reporter) on the editorial team, with a number of freelance journalists assisting on custom content and other projects.
May, who joined Phocuswright in July 2017 to lead the launch of PhocusWire later that year, is leaving to embark on a new career and academic studies in the mental health sector.
