Uber has signed a memorandum of understanding with carmaker Tata Motors to bring 25,000 electric vehicles (EVs) onto its platform in India.
Tata Motors will begin delivering EVs to Uber fleet partners starting this month. The partnership will aid the electrification of Uber service in India’s most populous cities, according to Uber.
“The partnership with Tata Motors will lay the groundwork for meaningful expansion of four-wheeler electric vehicles on a mobility platform in India,” Uber says.

The San Francisco-based ride-hailing company has committed to ensuring 100% of rides take place in zero-emission vehicles - or buses, trains, bicycles and scooters - by 2040.
In another step toward its zero-emission goal, Uber recently rolled out Comfort Electric, which lets riders request a ride in an electric vehicle like a Tesla or Polestar. The feature was introduced in a handful of cities in the United States last year before expanding to two dozen cities nationwide, plus Vancouver.
Uber says that collaboration is key to a sustainable future.
“We are very happy to work with industry partners that are leading the change,” Uber says. “We are focused on finding new, innovative and affordable ways to help drivers and fleets go electric.”
Part of the Tata Group, Tata Motors is a multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai. The company produces passenger cars, trucks, vans, coaches and buses.
“Working towards our aim of growing India’s e-mobility market, we are delighted to announce our partnership with Uber, India’s leading ridesharing app, for their expansion of sustainable mobility options,” says Shailesh Chandra, managing director for Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
“With this association, we have taken another leap toward enhancing electric mobility across the country and will continue our work in ‘Moving India’ to a safer, smarter and greener future,” Chandra says.
