Vertoe, a startup providing a short-term storage service, has raised $1.85 million in seed funding.
The company plans to expand the service, which allows people to store their bags and other personal items in local shops or other small businesses, to new markets.
The lead investor is ff Venture Capital while Ingwe Capital, Techstars and a number of angel investors also participated.
Vertoe’s service is available in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC and the startup plans to extend it nationally over the course of the coming year.
The company was founded in late 2016 as a weekend experiment but now the goal is to provide access to affordable storage within five minutes of a user’s location.

Storage is booked online or via mobile app with users entering a street address for where they’d like to store items and the platform displaying nearby locations.
Vertoe has competition in the space from UK-based Stasher which won Hotel Jumpstart, the Expedia Affiliate Network/hotels.com accelerator program, earlier this year.
