To say Hotelbeds Group has been through a fairly productive few years would be a bit of an understatement.
A sale to private equity, acquiring two competitors, offloading another part of the business - it's been all systems go for quite some time for the Spain-based company.
And yet it's a model that gets scant attention in some quarters of the industry, not least because the dominance of online travel agencies in the consumer-facing space takes up a large proportion of the headlines... and the controversies.
Central to the Hotelbeds Group business is its apparent ability to connect to hugely fragmented parts of the hotel distribution chain: travel agencies and hotels.
Although both ends of the equation face varying degrees of consolidation (big chains merging on the hotel end, for example), executive chairman Joan Vila believes the company has a significant role to play both now and in the future.
He recently spoke at Phocuswright Europe 2018 in Amsterdam, outlining these issues and how the company is well-placed to continue its growth and evolution.
