When we think of digital transformation in aviation, the focus tends to be on distribution and modern retailing.
But, what role do airline manufacturers play?
The likes of Airbus are sitting on huge amounts of data that can help airlines break down silos, address issues and improve operations.
Airbus created its Skywise data initiative three years ago and began getting airlines and suppliers on board so problems could be addressed more rapidly.
As digital transformation officer for Airbus, Marc Fontaine is at the heart of these sorts of developments.
During the World Aviation Festival 2019 in London earlier this month, he joined PhocusWire to talk about initiatives such as Skywise and how they are helping the industry.
He also discusses what carriers are asking for when it comes to delivering new aircraft and it's less about digital functionality and more to do with helping them be digital ready for passenger connectivity.
A further element he touched on was the use of sensors in the cabin to track how different areas are used at a much more granular level.
