The world of travel planning is a notoriously tricky area for startups to enter. Add to that doing so amid a global pandemic, and the chances for success – or even survival – appear slim.
Those circumstances didn’t stop group travel planning app Trippers, a Monaco-based startup that helps groups plan weekend getaways in Europe, from releasing its product in June of this year.
“When you’re a team of very enthusiastic people, you don’t want to give up at the first sign of a problem,” says Charlotte Franzellin, Trippers founder and CEO, speaking during PhocusWire Pulse: Startups in the Spotlight last month.

“Once you get started and you work on it you want to see it come to life, so we just kept going. That’s resilience in action there.”
With the pandemic in full force, Franzellin says Trippers scaled back its expectations and has focused on getting feedback from its users, which, in the B2C, has come with its own set of challenges.
Franzellin also explains why entering travel tech has been the “steepest learning curve” she’s been on in her career, how – as CEO – her role has touched on every area of Trippers’ business, from software and sales to partnerships and recruitment, as well as where the app is at on its funding journey.
