As a global travel metasearch platform, Skyscanner has
visibility into queries from more than 100 million people every month. The site
provides price comparisons on flights, hotels and car rentals, with more than 80
billion prices searched every day.
That sort of data gives Skyscanner insight into what
travelers are looking for and how their planning and booking trends are
shifting.
In a discussion in the PhocusWire studio at The
Phocuswright Conference 2023, Skyscanner CEO John Mangelaars explained some of
the trends the company is seeing for travel in 2024.
Mangelaars also discussed how the company is growing,
in part by localizing its content in new languages such as Arabic, Hebrew and
Hindi, resulting in a jump in monthly visitors of 25% compared with 2019. And he talked about how Skyscanner’s innovation work –
“We may do 500 experiments a month but each may have 30 iterations” – always
begins with the same priorities.
“The key thing is traveler first, partners second,
Skyscanner third,” Mangelaars said.
