Human spaceflight startup Space Perspective has closed a seed funding round of $7 million.
The round, led by Prime Movers Lab and Base Ventures, will help the company’s strategy of flights to the edge of space.
Taber MacCallum, founder and co-CEO, Space Perspective, says: “Our ability to make space accessible in unprecedented ways carries immense importance.
“We are grateful that this premier group of investors recognizes that space tourism has arrived and is a significant driver in the future growth of commercial spaceflight.”
Other investors which participated include Kirenaga Partners’ Central Florida Tech Fund, 1517 Fund, Schox, E2MC Ventures and SpaceFund Venture Capital.
Anton Brevde of Prime Movers Lab, says: “We are thrilled to be leading Space Perspective’s seed round. We are big believers in the future space economy and space tourism is a segment we have been tracking closely.
"It’s clear that there is massive consumer demand to explore this final frontier and we believe seeing Earth from the edge of space will have a profound impact on those who experience it.”
Space Perspective, a PhocusWire Hot 25 Startups 2021 company, plans to fly passengers to the edge of space and back in its Neptune spaceship.
A test flight, using an unmanned capsule, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021 from Kennedy Space Centre Shuttle Landing Facility.
The company says tickets will go on sale early next year for its first operational flight, which is slated for 2024.
