In some respects the payments element of the travel, tourism and hospitality sector operates regardless of the number of travelers.
Volume is just a numbers game, rather than hampering the ability of the system to operate smoothly.

Payments are evolving, in line with how technology is constantly having an impact on almost every part of the industry, but much of the change is invisible and gradual to the eyes of consumers.
But a pandemic can change things, as last year demonstrated when airlines and other brands were forced into complicated refund and voucher manoeuvers.

Thomas Helldorff, vice president of airlines and travel at Worldpay from FIS, talked about these issues during the PhocusWire Pulse: Progress In Travel Payments event in July.
Other topics under discussion include blockchain challenges, consumer expectations, user experience, payment security and biometrics.
