Travel designed around experiences and longer, often
multi-destination itineraries, are two trends that have surfaced in recent
years.
Those factors signal good news for companies such as
TourRadar and Kimkim – both online booking platforms for multi-day travel experiences.
The two companies are similar but not identical: Austria-based TourRadar offers
private and group multi-day adventures from more than 2,500 operators in more
than 160 countries. Colorado-based Kimkim specializes in private, customized
trips planned by a local specialist in destinations around the world.
In a discussion in the PhocusWire studio at The Phocuswright
Conference, TourRadar chief marketing officer Christian Wolters and Kimkim
founder Joost Schreve discussed how their businesses have change in recent
years, in part due to shifts coming out of the pandemic.
“Trips are going for a little bit longer, with a shorter
booking window and our age demographic went up a little bit,” Wolters said.
And said Schreve, we “built much more robust cancellation
flows. Price transparency is [more] important … we try to lean into making
things more transparent.”
Both also discussed their greater focus sustainability –
such as a new “impact measurement tool” TourRadar is developing for all
adventures on its platform – and Kimkim’s carbon capture initiative.
And they explained how they are attracting new customers
through strategic marketing and how they are using generative artificial
intelligence and the potential they see to use the technology in the future.
